Check This List to Decide If You Are Joining "the Great Resignation"

Today's Great Resignation is unprecedented and seems scary. But in many ways, it's awesome. People are not just grumbling, they are taking action.

A Microsoft survey of 30,000 workers in 31 countries, found 54% of Generation Z workers, 41% of the entire global workforce are considering resigning from their current job.

While how we work has changed for many people, the basic elements that make work a joy are the same.

Here's a checklist from Áine Cain that I really like that can help anyone assess their current job. It's called "Signs you are in the right job even if it doesn't feel like it"

If you have an unchecked box, determine what action you can take to remedy the situation. Discuss the exercise with a trusted friend.

If there are several unchecked boxes, go find somewhere else to work, where your awesomeness is appreciated.

Leaders,

Virtual work is causing many workers to be less engaged or excited about their jobs and your organization. They are missing out on the impromptu encounters at the office that provided opportunities to collaborate, connect, and build social capital.

They are struggling.

This is especially a challenge for those new to your company who do not have benefit of pre-pandemic relationships that were built in-person.

It is possible to provide connection in a hybrid workplace and have the outcomes listed in the checklist, but it is going to require some changes.
